There are many ways to find credit card options when you have poor credit. Begin by finding out your exact FICO score and studying your credit report. It's hard to know what your fighting if you don't know all the facts. Make sure you are aware of all the debt that is on your credit report and that it all looks familiar. It is possible to have mistakes on your credit report so double check. For access to your credit report, check out Websites such as www.FreeCreditReport.com and www.AnnualCreditReport.com.

Credit Card Options for Poor Credit

Having poor credit doesn't have to impede your chances of getting a credit card.  If you want to find credit card options with poor credit it is a good idea to start slow.  Lower My Bills has a complete selection of cards for bad credit borrowers.

  • Look for credit cards specifically for those with low credit scores. These are aimed at people who are interested in improving their credit score at all costs. Therefore, interest rates will be higher, credit limits will be lower and there will be more fee and fines associated with the card. The good news is it will usually report your payments to national credit bureaus at least on a monthly basis.
  • Check around for options like merchant credit cards. These will allow you to have a line of credit to spend in that particular store. They will not report to credit bureaus as often as credit cards but each payment made on time will be a tribute in your favor.
  • If you have trouble finding a credit card company to approve you for a card consider a secured card.  This is a credit building technique where you pay a deposit on a credit card. If you should default on your promise to pay the card off then the company has your deposit to fall back on. They will report your payment history to reporting bureaus on a specified schedule.

Meeting with a Credit Counselor

Consider also consulting with a credit counselor to find credit card options with a low credit score. These types of counselors are trained to help people find their way out of debt. Many times a fresh line of credit is just what is needed and these people can help. There are drawbacks to using a credit counselor so it is wise to research the company before signing on.

Finding credit card options for those with poor credit is not an impossible task. It is hard work but well worth the effort. You'll be glad you put in the time and exertion when you are able to easily make those dream purchases!
