According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the highest paying jobs by median hourly wages are anesthesiologists, who make an average of at least $70 an hour, or well over $100,000. Chief executives are second on the list of six figure jobs. The rest of the top ten highest paying jobs are all in the medical field: family and general practitioners, general internists, obstetricians and gynecologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists, all other physicians and surgeons, prosthodontists and psychiatrists.

There are a number of six figure jobs that are a bit out of the ordinary. Deep sea fishing can pay very well. Crew members can easily make a lot of money, often earning tens of thousands of dollars for just 30 days’ work. But this six figure job is hard work, with 16-hour days, working every day for the month the boat is at sea. And before you embrace this career change opportunity, note that the boats aren’t always profitable. Music directors and composers also can make a lot of money, clearing more than $100,000 depending upon the market where they work. To make it to the top range of this six figure job, a composer or music director has to be willing to move around a lot and work with a lot of different music companies and groups.
