TransUnion – History & What They Do

 | Jul 23,2007
This Article is rated:

TransUnion had a unique beginning for a credit reporting agency. They started out in 1968 as a rail car rental agency called Union Track Car Company. However, they steadily grew their business and acquired new technologies that allowed them to branch out. In 1969, the Union Track Car Company acquired the Credit Bureau of Cook Country. This company was unique in its own right with a huge manual library made up of 3.6 million card files. By 1988 TransUnion had expanded their operations and was able to offer credit monitoring services to the entire United States.

Today TransUnion has moved into the 21st century. After its acquisition of TrueCredit.com, it created an online presence that made it stand shoulder to shoulder with Experian and Equifax as a credit reporting and monitoring agency. As a result of their expansion and success, they now have branches in 30 countries including the U.S.

TrueCredit.com Products

The first product that TransUnion offers customers under their TrueCredit.com property is an unlimited access subscription. This subscription includes, as its name suggests, unlimited access to your TransUnion, Experian and Equifax credit reports and scores, quick notifications of changes made to your credit reports and scores, $25,000 in complimentary identity theft insurance and the ability to lock and unlock your report. This subscription doesn’t require you to sign a long term contract, and in fact, you have the option of canceling your subscription any time you want.

Credit Education

In addition to the credit monitoring services that TransUnion offers, they also offer a free credit education center. Here you can learn about credit, preparing for a home loan and how to dispute items in your credit report. You can also use special credit education tools like the credit score simulator to see how changes you can make to your credit profile can improve your overall credit score.
