American Express: Don’t Leave Home Without It. No, it’s not the American Express slogan anymore, but one of those enduring campaigns that becomes a part of popular speech. Also known as Amex, American Express was a much different credit card than the Amex cards seen today. Originally, American Express cards could only be used at limited locations and the high-end platinum cards could only be used by the most high-end borrowers. Today, American Express cards are far more common than in the past. Originally, American Express cards were used for select entertainment purchases. Now American Express cards can be used at a greater variety of places for less money than before. For example, the American Express Clear card has no fees whatsoever, unique in the credit card industry. Generally, with an American Express card, you can expect low interest rates and increased support for purchases all over the world.
