Celebrity Divorces: Paul McCartney and Heather Mills

The details of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills’ celebrity divorce settlement are all over the news. The $50 million settlement sounds significant, but is just a drop in the bucket compared to McCartney’s billion-dollar fortune. And, it’s not too much more than what was offered by McCartney in initial settlement talks. In other words, the couple could have avoided the courts and the full-court press that tabloid and mainstream news are giving them, by settling out of court. And the results would have been more or less the same.

 

How McCartney and Mills Settlement Stacks Up with Other Celebrity Divorces

 

We’ve talked about a number of celebrity divorces on the blog. McCartney and Mills’ divorce settlement falls pretty low on the chain, with much less money exchanging hands than during the dissolution of Kevin Costner’s marriage to Cindy Silva ($80 million), James Cameron and Linda Hamilton ($50 to $80 million), Neil Diamond and Marcia Murphey ($150 million) and Harrison Ford and Melissa Mathison ($118 million).

 

Fox News is reporting that McCartney can make up the financial loss with one world tour: Three years ago, McCartney grossed almost $80 million with a tour of America and Europe.

 

Heather Mills is said to be appealing the court’s decision.
