Stay Safe on Online Blogs and Websites
Posted by: Allie P. | Jan 17,2008
Blogs are great fun- obviously, I enjoy them too. But it’s important to stay safe when you visit or start your own online blogs and websites. Some tips from the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC), a nonprofit dedicated to providing information to help prevent identity fraud, to help you stay safe when you visit or start your own online blogs:
Be wary of what photos you post on your blogs to stay safe online. There are people and groups who prey on certain types of individuals. If you post photos from that fun weekend in Cabo with friends, well, you might just send the wrong kind of message to identity thieves and online stalkers. Keep it clean to stay safe on your blog.
Don’t give out your personal information to people you meet on your own blogs or other blogs and websites that you find online. I saw this series on Dateline where people had got involved in “relationships” with men and women overseas. They weren’t the people they purported themselves to be. The TV show instead uncovered a boiler room of men and women using false identities online. It was really sad and not what you want for yourself.
