Save Money on Gas and Improve Fuel Efficiency
Posted by: Allie P. | Apr 23,2008
In the Finance Headlines this morning, there’s a detailed overview of how you can save money at the gas pump. The U.S. Department of Energy provides more information about how these tips can help you improve your fuel efficiency and save money when you buy gas this year:
-
Slow down to save money. Aggressive drivers who reduce their speed can improve fuel efficiency by as much as 33% which can result in saving as much as $1.16 a gallon on gas.
-
Staying within the speed limit can also save money when you buy gas. Gas mileage decreases when you drive about 60 mph and slowing down can improve fuel efficiency by as much as 23%.
-
Removing excess weight in your vehicle can result in a savings of 1-2% per 100 pounds, or up to .07 cents per gallon.
In addition, don’t forget about using a gas credit card to save money on gas this year. The Discover Open Road credit card is a great option for people who are doing everything they can to improve fuel efficiency. And the Chase PerfectCard is a popular gas rebate card that saves you money every time you use the card to fill up your car.
