Election Fraud

How diabolical is this?  It really makes my blood boil.  You wonder why so many seniors are the victim of identity theft?  It’s because telemarketers take the “sundown” approach: “Many seniors, my mother-in-law included, are loosely classified as "sundowners," acting right as rain during the day but getting a bit muddled - showing any signs they have of dementia - at dusk or later, just around the time telemarketers figure they will catch people at home after dinner.”

That just sickens me, really.  And I put this out as a warning to seniors who answer many of these calls.  I’ll trade some between Boomer Gene today, who often writes about the election.  Today he writes about retirement and I’m going to write about an election issue.  Because seniors are more likely to vote than younger people, seniors are being targeted by solicitations for donations which sound legitimate but may not be.

So seniors today are potentially the victim of fraud from two fronts.  Because elections are upon us, identity thieves are setting up fraudulent donation fronts.  They also, apparently, call up in the dusk hours when seniors’ mental faculties might not be as strong.  I hope a number of seniors read this and take precautions.  Though you might want to donate to a candidate and a cause when they come calling, it’s better for you to do some research yourself and donate on your own time.  Just as candidates need to be vetted, so do charities, so it’s important to do some research before you ever hand over money.  If you are at all susceptible to potential lapses in judgment after a certain hour, be aware of this and act accordingly.
