Charitable Uses for Your Credit Card
Posted by: Lisa N. | Dec 29,2007
There are a number of ways to use your credit card to benefit charitable causes in the New Year. If you’ve been too busy to volunteer your time, and are looking for a way to give back, it’s never been easier. How you can use your credit card to benefit charitable causes:
You can get a credit card that’s tied to a charity. A number of charitable organizations have hooked up with credit card companies. The charity credit cards donate a portion of what you spend using your card to benefit a worthy cause. Typically a charity credit card works like a rewards card, but instead of giving you cash back, will instead donate 1% of what you charge to the charity.
You can shop for products or with merchants and retailers that donate a part of their proceeds to charities. The profits made from the Paul Newman line of foodstuffs all go to charitable causes. And many national chain stores, like The Gap and Office Max, donate part of customer sales to charitable organizations at different times throughout the year.
Many rewards credit cards and frequent flyer programs will let you donate your points or miles to charity. If you donate miles they might be used to help someone travel or they might be auctioned off to benefit a charitable organization.
Get more information about the Chase Student MasterCard®, a rewards credit card that lets you donate your earned points to your favorite charities.
