Facing Facts to Pay Off Your Credit Card Debt
Posted by: Desiree B. | Jan 11,2008
There’s a big reason people find themselves overwhelmed by credit card debt, and unable to pay it off and move on. It has to do with facing facts. Perhaps you got into debt because of bad investments, spending money on things you didn’t need to have or because you don’t make enough money to support your lifestyle. Whatever the reason, you have to face up to the fact that you now have $10,000, $20,000 or more in credit card debt in order to move on.
If you need to pay off your debt, you need to start by facing up to what you owe. It’s not easy. But you need to lay out all of your bills and see exactly how much money you would need to pay off all of your credit card debt. Quicken or other types of money management software can help you see the big picture.
Once you know how much credit card debt you have, you need to set up a budget. This budget is meant to pay off your debt, while leaving you enough to pay for your regular living expenses.
And set aside some money every month in your budget for fun. Whatever it is you love to do, you need to be able to still do it sometimes if you want to be able to stay within your budget.
Experts agree- a low interest credit card can help you get your credit card debt under control. Just remember- if you’re trying to pay off your debts, you definitely don’t want to run up any more debt on the new card.
