Credit Counseling Services: Interviewing Credit Debt Counselors
Posted by: Desiree B. | Dec 20,2007
Yesterday, we talked about credit counseling services, and finding the right credit debt counseling firm for you. It’s important to find a reputable credit counselor, that’s properly trained to help you, doesn’t have complaints filed against them with the Better Business Bureau and doesn’t charge steep fees for their services. Once you’ve established that a credit counseling service meets these criteria, you’re ready to interview the credit debt counselor:
Ask the credit debt counselor about the types of services that they offer. Do they help people create a budget? Do they provide free credit debt management counseling classes? Do they have free credit counseling handbooks, brochures and training guides available? Avoid credit counseling services that only offer debt management as a solution to your problems. This may be an unscrupulous credit debt counselor that you need to avoid.
Ask the credit counselor what kind of plans they offer for your future financial well-being. You need more than just a quick answer to solve your problems; you need a well-thought out plan that you can continue to use for years to come.
Yesterday we talked about credit counseling fees. Today I’ll tell you to tell that credit debt counselor to put the information about their fees in writing.
Tomorrow, we’ll talk more about how to interview a prospective credit debt counselor.
