Sticking to Your Budget on Valentine’s Day
Posted by: Sally S. | Feb 14,2008
On Valentine’s Day, or on any other special occasion, it can be especially difficult to stick to a personal budget. It’s tempting to want to spoil the special someone in your life with a pricey, over-the-top gift on a holiday. There are some easy ways to stick to your budget on special occasions.
Instead of spending a lot of money on a night out in a restaurant, consider making a special dinner at home instead. You can make a lovely, extremely personal gift out of a homemade dinner for less than half the price you’d pay dining out.
Make a greeting card instead of buying one for your loved one to save money this Valentine’s Day. A sweet poem or just some words that express how you feel can be much more meaningful than a canned sentiment from a greeting card company.
This holiday is meant for lovers- not for unseemly displays of wealth. Stick to your budget on Valentine’s Day by doing something unexpected for your loved one. If you have kids, offer to stay home one evening so your partner can have a fun night out with friends. If you love to go camping and hiking, consider a trip to a cottage (with a fireplace) in the woods on an upcoming weekend preceding the spring thaw.
There are a number of creative gifts you can give your loved one that won’t destroy your budget this Valentine’s Day. You can also find competitively priced gifts online at Pricegrabber.com. PriceGrabber.com lets you compare prices on gifts before you buy and shop by price ranges to find the perfect present with a minimum of hassle.
